The big issue with them is how much damage they cause despite their ridiculously low lifespan. We've seen the extent of what just a few years of them being allowed to do what they want has wrought, and the best way to describe them is as akin to danger-prone rodents like rats. They may kill themselves often by chewing through wires or starving inside walls, but in turn, they could easily degrade the land around them and breed rapidly if you're not able to control it.
They still spread their degeneracy before dying.
