Anime only blew up as much as it did because it filled a gap in the market! not to mention piracy is so abundant that you can watch over 400 hours of one piece without paying shueisha a dime.
If western entertainment could shape up, anime wouldnt completely fall off, but it would stop being "larpable". Lolifaggotry aside, the main complaint from normies about anime is that its corny and childish, and i gotta admit anime writing is an acquired taste.
