Phonk

There are 3 main types of Phonk

1. Traditional Memphis Rap (Pre-Drift era)

The father of phonk. Was inspired by older hip-hop. Had existed before the modern internet did. Not really popular anymore.

2. Drift Phonk

A new era of (nu)phonk that started the sigma/troll face edits. Either had chill or loud beats (not as annoying as the latter phonk). Was popular in the late 2010s-early 2020s. The prime of (nu)phonk. Was used for Sigma edits like Patrick Bateman, Gigachad, Troll Face (sometimes), Walter White, etc. (was used purely unironically).

3. Brapzilian “Phonk” (funk)

The current era of “phonk” we all love or hate today. Most of it is just straight up bass booted brap music slop while there are other ones that are SOME expectations. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s just pure SLOP. It is debatable whether if it’s really phonk or not. Used for Tuff edits like Trolldge, etc. (either used ironically or unironically).
