My biggest problem with when I saw the original back in 2017-2018 was that it wasn't anything I hadn't already experienced before in older and better metroidvanias. The only strong element I remember from then was the visuals and that little healing mechanic, but that wasn't enough for me to ever care about it. It's an Xbox Live Gold Pass mid game that goes free for a month without the fandumb in mind, and thankfully just coal including the fandumb given that furfags and general fags were busier with other things like Deltarune in 2018 or whatever other big phases came out before in 2017. It's bad, but it could've been far worse.
